I found this video really interesting, to see what some famous logos started out as. Even Nike’s “swoosh” logo (not in this vid, but the best logo ever) started out as something else (Blue Ribbon Sports Co!).
Nokia, what were you thinking – a FISH? And Apple Computers, a hideous picture of Newton under a tree? lol
