As October is the low point of the year for me in terms of things going on from an outdoor sports perspective, I generally take time to look at my year in review and plan for the next one.

I think 2013 is going to be very exciting – in many ways – here on planet Earth (note: that means I don’t think it’s going to blow up on the 21st of this December!).

But, in order to most effectively share my sunny outlook with those I come in contact with, I’m going to make 3 simple changes to my social media life. Starting now.

1. My personal page will be used for sharing personal thoughts, journeys, and experiences I’m involved in, and that’s it.
2. Brand promotion will stay on brand fan pages.
3. Controversial topics will be discussed on the Galt Yourself brand page.

Why?

Well, how about 3 reasons for the why:
1. I have pretty strong beliefs, and because they’re logically right it’s easy for me to get irritated with people who believe, well, the wrong thing. (See how I did that there?)
2. I’m needlessly pissing people off that I shouldn’t piss off, even if I do think their worldview(s) are irrational and parroted. And that’s counterproductive to what I want to do with my life and business pursuits.
3. Just because someone signed up to be my facebook friend, doesn’t mean they want to hear me talk about my whacky niche sports all the time, or see pictures of people wearing t-shirts that declare “YOU ARE WORTH WHAT YOU PRODUCE”.

So I’ll just keep the me part of social me, to happy optimistic funloving me. If you do want to know about any of the other more brand-centric parts of me, well, there are fan pages for that.

And if you do post what I deem to be moronic, ignorant, head-in-the-sand-watching-CNN type of blather and I see it in my feed, you might inspire me to respond, but I’ll do it elsewhere, in a forum where those topics are expected and useful. I’ll leave you to be the one polluting facebook with angry noise. ;)

Because statistically speaking, I probably know you from someplace outside the realm of worldviews and politics. More than likely, we know each other from something innocent and pure, like outdoor sports.

Let’s keep it that way. I’m 100% guilty, because I love truth, justice, and logic, and I don’t like seeing people espousing beliefs and “facts” that are completely incorrect. So I’ve spouted off. Way too much.

I’m not sorry, because it wasn’t wrong. But I don’t think it’s the most effective way for me to conduct myself when my businesses are not in the realm of foreign policy or political debate.

If you do like that though, I have a number of friends on here who are a wealth of knowledge and a daily source of spirited intellectual debate, and I’ll be happy to point you their direction – they’re very, very smart, and their conversations are very, very spirited and intellectually stimulating.

But that’s what they do. Me, I’m going to step away from the octagon, walk out into the fresh air, and at least as far as what the few people left who still subscribe to my feed will see (hi Mom!), focus on the incredible high of living, the useful lessons I’m learning, and the ridiculous fun of chasing sunshine & h2o.
